How it's calculated
This calculator uses the US Navy tape method, the same circumference-based formula used by the US Department of Defense. It is one of the more accessible field methods and typically lands within a few percent of a DEXA scan when measurements are taken carefully.
Keep the tape snug but not compressing the skin. Measure neck just below the larynx, waist at the navel for men or the narrowest point for women, and hips at the widest point for women.
Use this number as a baseline and re-measure every 2–4 weeks under the same conditions to track real change over time.
